Laurenz Tanner (politician, 1631)
Laurenz Tanner (born April 13, 1631 in Herisau ; † November 19, 1701 in Herisau; legal resident in Herisau) was a Swiss merchant , long-time member of the Small Council , mayor and delegate from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .
Life
Laurenz Tanner was a son of Johannes Tanner and brother of Johannes Tanner . In 1689 his first wife married Catharina Diem, daughter of Hans Diem, a farrier . A second marriage in 1697 he went with Judith Kappeler, daughter of Adam Kappeler and widow of Hans Ulrich Schiess, community Captain and bleach grater seater in Herisau, one. He was an innkeeper , merchant and mayor of Herisau. From 1665 to 1770 he officiated as the Ausserrhoder state ensign, from 1670 to 1675 as the state bag master and from 1675 to 1684 as the state governor. Between 1682 and 1698 he was a parliamentary envoy 37 times. From 1684 to 1701 he held the office of Landammann. After the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, Tanner arranged for collections to be raised for the Protestants expelled from France and Piedmont and demanded the recall of the extra-Rhodian troops paid for by France. In 1686 he promoted the construction of a church in Wald and thereby the separation of the Wald farm from the parent community of Trogen . In 1701, Tanner was voted out of office because he advocated the introduction of the Gregorian calendar .
