Laurie Bird

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Laurie Bird (born September 26, 1953 on Long Island , New York , † June 15, 1979 in New York City ) was an American actress and photographer.

Bird was three years old when her mother died. Since her father worked full time, she learned early on to stand on her own two feet.

She owed a role in his film Asphaltrennen (1971) to her acquaintance with director Monte Hellman . Hellman first saw her as a “prototype” for the girl's film character and after unsuccessful auditions he employed the inexperienced Laurie Bird himself. Another role followed, alongside other actors from asphalt races , in Hellman's film Cockfighters (1974), for which she was also employed as a still photographer . After a small role under the name Lauri Bird in Der Stadtneurotiker , she gave up acting and devoted herself to photography.

In July 1975 she met Art Garfunkel . The two became a couple. Laurie Bird can be seen on the cover of Garfunkel's album Breakaway and partly on the back of Scissors Cut . The cover of Watermark was photographed by her.

On June 15, 1979, Laurie Bird committed suicide in Art Garfunkel's apartment. Her death is said to have badly affected Garfunkel.
