geography

course

The Lauter arises east of the village of the same name Lauter near Laubach in Hesse in the extreme southeast of the Vorderen Vogelsberg and flows into the Wetter after a run of 7 km in the neighboring village of Wetterfeld . As early as 1293, a settlement near the river called Luttara was mentioned in a document. The residents used their strength by building numerous water mills. This is how the village of Lauter got its nickname Sieben-Mühlen-Dorf .
