Lawrence Patrick Henry
Lawrence Patrick Henry (born July 27, 1934 in Cape Town ; † March 4, 2014 ibid) was the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cape Town .
Life
Lawrence Patrick Henry was ordained a priest on December 22, 1962 . He previously served as an Assistant Priest in District Six , where he remained as a priest until 1966.
Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Cape Town and titular bishop of Cenculiana on April 27, 1987 . The Archbishop of Cape Town, Stephen Naidoo CSsR , donated him episcopal ordination on August 16 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were George Francis Daniel , Archbishop of Pretoria and Bishop of the South African Military Ordinary , and Edward Robert Adams , Bishop of Oudtshoorn .
He was named Archbishop of Cape Town on July 7, 1990, and was introduced to the office on August 29 of the same year. On December 18, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
Lawrence Patrick Henry died on the eve of Ash Wednesday 2014 after being diagnosed with cancer the day before.
He was committed to HOPE Cape Town, an anti-AIDS foundation run by the German priest Stefan Hippler .
Henry visited Germany several times. At the invitation of Johannes Joachim Cardinal Degenhardt , he took part in the Paderborn Liborifest in 2000 .
