Lawrence S. Bacow

Lawrence Seldon Bacow ( Lawrence S. Bacow ) (born August 24, 1951 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American lawyer, economist , environmental expert and 29th President of Harvard University .

Family and education

Bacow is the son of Jewish parents who survived the Holocaust. The mother moved from Europe to the USA after 1945, the Belarusian father from Minsk had been brought to the USA as a child.
Bacow received his Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He received his Juris Doctor (JD) from Harvard Law School and his Masters of Public Policy (MPP) and Ph.D. (PhD) from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government .

Bacow was a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for 24 years from 1977, became head of a department (dean) and was from 1998 to 2001 in the successor of Paul E.
