Lawrence Sampofu

Lawrence Alufea Sampofu (born August 10, 1955 in Mbabanzi , South West Africa ) is a Namibian politician of the SWAPO and governor of the Zambezi region .

In 2010 he took over the post of regional governor of the then Caprivi region.

Sampofu fought actively in the People's Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) as part of the Namibian liberation struggle . He was trained for this in Zambia and Tanzania . After Namibia's independence in 1990, he became military director in the Caprivi region. He rose to the position of colonel in the Namibian Defense Force . As such, he also served in UN missions MINURCAT (in Chad ) and UNMEE (in Eritrea ).
