Bernard Songa Sibalatani (* 4. March 1953 , South West Africa ) is a Namibian politician of SWAPO . He has been Chairman of the National Council , the upper house of Namibia , since December 9, 2019 .

Sibalatani has been a member of the National Council as the representative of the Zambezi region since 2008 . From 2015 to December 2019 he was vice chairman of this. He was governor of the Caprivi region from 1999 to 2008 ( Zambezi since 2013 )

Life path

Sibalatani attended schools in Ikaba and Luhonono (until 2013 Schuckmannsburg ) 1963-1970 and from 1973 to 1975. His professional training he enjoyed 1976-1977 in Kizito College, before 1998 at the Institute of Administration and Commerce of South Africa in South Africa learned.

In 1964 Sibalatani was a member of the Caprivi African National Union and joined SWAPO in 1975. He was politically active and organized demonstrations . In 1978, after the end of the Cassinga conflict , Sibalatani was arrested. After his arrest, he continued his political activities. Sibalatani was later arrested again and charged with organizing the explosion in a government building in Katima Mulilo . Most recently, Sibalatani was arrested for selling a communist newspaper.
