Lawrence Wright (writer)
Lawrence Wright (born August 2, 1947 ) is an American writer , journalist and screenwriter .
Life
After studying at Tulane University in New Orleans , Wright spent two years at the American University in Cairo , teaching English and doing his Masters in Applied Linguistics . So far he has published five non-fictional books. He also writes regularly for the New Yorker .
For “ Death Will Find You ”, in which he described the origins of al-Qaida and the background to September 11th, he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in the non-fiction category and the Lionel Gelber Prize in 2007 .
His nonfiction book In the Prison of Faith: Scientology, Hollywood and the Interior of a Modern Church about the Scientology Movement served as the basis for director Alex Gibney's 2015 documentary Scientology: A Prison of Faith , which Wright also produced.
