Leandro Marconi (architect, 1834)
Leandro Jan Marconi (born April 23, 1834 in Warsaw ; † October 8, 1919 in Montreux ) was a Polish architect who mainly worked in his native city.
Life
Leandro was a son of Enrico Marconi and the brother of Władysław Marconi and Karol Antoni Marconi . His mother was Małgorzata ( Margaret ) Heiton (1807-1884) from Scotland . A cousin was the sculptor Leonard Marconi.
After graduating from a Warsaw high school, Marconi began his training as an architect. He obtained the professional classes of master builder 1st class and master builder 2nd class introduced by the Russian rulers . During his training he was supported by his father, from whom he was involved in his projects. So the two worked on the design for the Hotel Europejski . Together with his father and Jan Kacper Heurich , he was also involved in the renovation of the parish church (St. Anne's Church) in Wilanów .
His first major project of his own was that of Villa Rau on Aleje Ujazdowskie . He then rebuilt his brother's villa and built the monumental seat of Bank Handlowy at the intersection of Ulica Traugutta and Czackiego . He built a palace in the Ulica Foksal for Konstanty Zamoyski as well as the Sobański Palace and the Branicki Palace on the Aleja Legionów . In 1881 he built a gallery building for Gracjan Unger in the courtyard of the Potocki Palace in Warsaw . His outstanding work was to be the construction of the Great Warsaw Synagogue . He later built churches outside of Warsaw and oversaw the renovation work on Wilanów Palace for several years .
Marconi was an important representative of the eclectic architectural style with influences from the Italian Renaissance and classicism . He was married to Bronisława Osikowska (1838-1902).
