Lebap welaýaty (formerly Russian Чарджоуская область Tschardschouskaja oblast ) is one of the five provinces of Turkmenistan .
The province is located in the east of the country and borders Uzbekistan in the east and Afghanistan in the southeast . It is from the river Amu Darya flowed from which the south of the Karakum Canal branches off parts of the province are from the Karakum taken -Wüste.
The area is 93,730 km², the population (2005) around 1,334,500, which results in a population density of around 14 inhabitants / km².
The capital of the province is Türkmenabat (formerly Tschardschou or Çärjew), other larger cities are Magdanly (formerly Gowurdak ), Kerki and Gazojak .
