Lecchi di Staggia is a fraction of the municipality of Poggibonsi in the province of Siena , Tuscany region in Italy .
geography
The place is about 5 kilometers southeast of the main town Poggibonsi and about 17 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital Siena in the Chianti and Elsa Valley near the Staggia River . It is 233 meters and had around 160 inhabitants in 2001.
history
Initially, the place belonged to Pieve Sant'Agnese (today part of the municipality of Castellina in Chianti ) and Santa Maria a Talciona (Talciona, now part of the municipality of Poggibonsi), both of which were subordinate to the Abbey of San Salvatore in Badia a Isola . Documentary mentions the place on November 8, 1401 and August 25, 1469 by the then Archbishop of Siena, Francesco Todeschini Piccolomini (who later became Pope Pius III ).
Attractions
- Santa Maria Assunta (Maria de Lecchis), church in the town center, which was first documented in 1595. A restoration took place in the 19th century. It belongs to the Archdiocese of Siena-Colle di Val d'Elsa-Montalcino .
