Lee Mark Grant (born December 31, 1985 in York ) is a former English football player .
Career
Originally from Strensall , Grant was a member of the Center of Excellence in York City for six years during his school years and was appointed to the squad of the professional team for the final day of the 2001/02 season . Grant was still a student at the Huntington School at the time and was preparing for his GCSE exams. A job was only possible with a special permit from his school. In the game against Bristol Rovers , he made his debut a few minutes before the end by substituting and was the second youngest competitive debutant in the club's history at 16 years and 107 days after RegStock .
Originally, Grant was supposed to receive a three-year training contract with York City in the summer of 2002 after graduating from school, but Grant ultimately decided to switch to an offer in the junior division of the first division club Aston Villa ; York received £ 50,000 in compensation instead. Grant's development did not go unnoticed by those in charge of the English association and in November 2002 he played with the U18 team in a 3-0 defeat in Limoges against his French peers . In 2004 Grant stood alongside later national players such as Gary Cahill , Gabriel Agbonlahor and Jamie Ward with Aston Villa in the final of the FA Youth Cup , but the offspring of FC Middlesbrough proved to be too strong in the final.
In November 2004, Grant , who played mostly in the central defensive position , returned for a few months on loan to his youth club, which had meanwhile been relegated to the fifth-rate Football Conference , and came alongside numerous former teammates from his youth, including Bryan Stewart , Michael Staley, Sean Davies and David Stockdale , to eight league appearances in which he scored two goals. Grant last played in early 2006 for relegation-threatened fifth division club Southport and was used in a regional cup game, but a long-term commitment did not materialize and he left the club in February 2006. No other career stations are known, in April 2006 he made headlines at a local amateur golf tournament.
