Sofia Yfandidou ( Greek Σοφία Υφαντίδου ; born January 10, 1985 in Veroia ) is a Greek athlete who specializes in all- around competitions . She took part in the Summer Olympics twice for Greece . It is operated by the IAAF under the name Sofia Ifantidou .

Career

After she had finished seventh at the U23 European Athletics Championships in 2007 in javelin, she started at the 2009 Summer Universiade in the heptathlon . With a total of 5737 points, she finished the competition in sixth place. In 2010 she started for the first time at the European Athletics Championships . At the 2010 European Championships in the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Barcelona , she finished 15th in the heptathlon with a personal best of 6004 points.

She won the competition at Desenzano del Garda Multistars on May 6, 2012 with a total of 6109 points, setting a new personal record in the heptathlon in Desenzano del Garda, Italy . She thus achieved the B standard and was nominated by the Elliniki Olympiaki Epitropi for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London . In the heptathlon in the Olympic Stadium in London she finished 24th with 5947 points. Nevertheless, she wrote Olympic history because she reached a distance of 56.96 meters when throwing the javelin and thus improved the Olympic heptathlon record in javelin throwing.

She took part in the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Mersin for Greece . In the heptathlon in the Nevin Yanıt Athletics Complex , she was able to collect a total of 5752 points and thus won the silver medal behind Yasmina Omrani from Algeria. In the same year she took part in the World Athletics Championships for the first time. At the 2013 World Championships in the Luzhniki Olympic Stadium in Moscow , she finished 23rd with a total of 5894 points. Two years later, she took part in the 2015 World Athletics Championships at the Beijing National Stadium and finished in 19th place.

Before the 2016 Summer Olympics, she competed in the 2016 European Athletics Championships in the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam . In the heptathlon competition she was able to fight for a total of 6025 points and take eighth place. She qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics and was nominated by the Elliniki Olympiaki Epitropi for the women's heptathlon competition. She finished the competition in 27th place with 5613 points.

On February 19, 2017, she took part in the Greek indoor championships in Athens and started in the pentathlon. With a total of 4042 points, she won the Greek championship and set a new personal best in the pentathlon. In the outdoor season, she missed qualifying for the 2017 World Athletics Championships .

She started at the Greek championships not only in heptathlon , but also in javelin throwing , for example . While she was able to become Greek champion in the heptathlon in 2014 and 2016, she won the Greek championship title in javelin three times between 2015 and 2017.

At the Greek indoor championships she started not only in the pentathlon , but also in the long jump and in the 60-meter hurdles . While she was the Greek indoor champion in 2012 over the 60 meter hurdles and in 2013 in the long jump, she won the Greek pentathlon champion in 2016 and 2017.
