Lee Jung-mi (born June 25, 1962 in Ulsan ) is a South Korean judge . She has been a judge at the Constitutional Court since March 14, 2011, and heads it on a provisional basis from February 1, 2017 until the end of her term on March 31, 2017.

Life

In 1980 Lee Jung-mi graduated from the high school for girls in Masan ( Korean : 마산 여자 고등학교 ) and in the same year moved to the Law School of Korea University to study law , which she graduated in 1984. In the same year, Lee passed the bar exam, the entrance exam for lawyers in South Korea. After graduating, she first wanted to become a prosecutor , but decided to pursue a career as a judge.

In 1987, Lee began serving as a judge in Daejeon District Court , moved to Incheon District Court in 1991, and Suwon District Court in 1992 . She became a judge at the Seoul Family Court in 1994, the Seoul Central Judicial District in 1996, and the Seoul West Judicial District in 1998, before moving to the Seoul Appeals Court in 1999. She also accompanied the positions as senior judge at the Ulsan District Court (2002), the Seoul West District Court (2007) and the Central Seoul District Court (2009). In 2010, she was appointed a senior judge in the Busan and Daejeon Appeals Courts.

On January 31, 2011, she was nominated by the Chairman of the Supreme Court of South Korea, Lee Yong-hoon, to succeed Lee Kong-hyun as a judge at the Constitutional Court , and on March 14, 2011, she succeeded her. She is the second woman after Jeon Hyo-sook (term of office August 2003 to September 2006) to be appointed constitutional judge. In January 2013, the term of office of chairman Lee Kang-Kook ended , and Song Doo-Hwan took over the chairmanship of the Constitutional Court. When a new chairman was still not appointed on March 22, 2013, the end of Song's tenure, Lee took over the acting chairmanship until April 11, 2013. On April 12, Park Han-Chul , who had been since February 1, 2011, took over Judge at the Constitutional Court was officially presiding over the court. Since the end of his tenure, Lee is again acting chairman of the Constitutional Court. Her term of office ended on March 13, 2017.
