Lee Wan-koo (born June 2, 1950 in Hongseon County , South Chungcheonh Province ) is a South Korean politician. He is the executive director of the ruling Conservative Saenuri Party and was the 43rd Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea from February 16 to April 27, 2015 .

He completed his bachelor's degree in public administration at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul in 1975 and his master's degree in criminal law from Michigan State University in 1984 . In 1994 he received his Ph.D. from Dankook University. Since 1974 he has worked in various public service offices. In 1996 he was elected to the National Assembly ( Gukhoe ) for the first time for four years , and in 2000 he was confirmed as a member of the election. In 2004 he was visiting professor at UCLA for two years , before holding the post of governor of Chungcheongnam-do Province from 2006 to 2009. In 2013 he was elected to the National Assembly for the third time and has been the managing director of the Saenuri party since 2014.

Lee Wan-koo was elected Prime Minister by 148 votes to 128 on February 16, 2015, after President Park Geun-hye nominated him on January 23. He succeeded Jung Hong-won, who stepped down in 2014 . At the end of April he announced his resignation due to a bribery scandal .
