Lefkimmi ( Greek Λευκίμμη ( f. Sg. )) Is a municipality on the Greek island of Corfu . It was created as a community in 1986, expanded in 1997 and merged into the newly formed community of Kerkyra in 2010 , in which Lefkimmi is now one of the 15 community districts.
The core is the small town of the same name with 2935 inhabitants in the southeast of the Greek island of Corfu , which makes it the second largest town. The place itself was originally a fishing village and is still in a very pristine condition today, as it is not one of the typical tourist areas. In the old streets and the small shops you can experience the traditional, Corfiot everyday life.
In the vicinity of Lefkimmi there is a port where both larger ferries and small excursion ships such. B. to Paxos and Andipaxos . Also just a few kilometers further is the tourist town of Kavos, which is particularly popular with British holidaymakers.
Administrative division
The municipality of Lefkimmi ( Δήμος Λευκιμμαίων Dímos Lefkimméon ) was founded in 1986 from the merger of the rural communities of Lefkimmi and Ano Lefkimmi. Lefkimmi got its current size through the union with the rural communities Neochori and Vitalades in the course of the community reform in 1997 . According to the 2010 administrative reform , Lefkimmi was one of 15 parish districts in the newly formed Kerkyra parish .
