The Lehnskov was on a voyage from Lübeck to Middelfart when she ran into a sea mine on February 22, 1944 at around 8.45 p.m. in the Fehmarnbelt . The crew tried to save the ship, but could not do anything against the strong water ingress and had to board the lifeboat. The Lehnskov sank around 10 p.m. and the crew, consisting of five people, was able to reach Fehmarn in the lifeboat on February 23, 1944.
