European Athletics U18 Championships

The Athletics U18 Championships ( English European Athletics U18 Championships ) in 2016 as the Athletics European Youth Championships ( European Athletics Youth Championships called), were presented at the European Athletics Association Congress (ger .: European Athletics Congress) on 12/13. April 2013 in Skopje ( Macedonia ), where all 50 member associations were represented, unanimously launched. Since 2016, they have been held every two years at the beginning of July. Participants aged 17 or younger ( U18 for short ) are eligible to start .

The competition program is the same as that of the U18 World Athletics Championships , with the option of adding pole vault to the eightfold. A maximum of two athletes per nation are allowed to start per discipline. In addition to the U20 European Athletics Championships and the U23 European Athletics Championships, it is the third European Championship for an age group organized by the EAA .

The first European Youth Athletics Championships were held from July 14th to 17th, 2016 in Tbilisi . The annual election means that the competitions alternate with the European Youth Olympic Festival , another U18 event that takes place every two years and is supported by the European Olympic Committee .

At its meeting in Amsterdam at the end of April 2016, the European Athletics Council decided to award the European Youth Championships 2018 to Győr ( Hungary ) and 2020 to Rieti ( Italy ).
