The Austrian Athletics Federation presented at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics in Daegu as the previous host a total of four participants. Three other athletes who had met the nomination criteria did not start. Decathlete Roland Schwarzl was not yet in top form after illness, and long-distance runners Günther Weidlinger and Andrea Mayr instead prepared for marathons in autumn to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London .
