Lejb Goldberg

Lejb Goldberg ( Yiddish גאָלדבערג לייב; Russian Лейб Гольдберг / Transcription : Leib Goldberg ; scientific transliteration Lejb Gol'dberg ; born 1892 in Brest-Litovsk , Grodno Governorate, Russian Empire ; died 1955 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) Soviet writer, translator and journalist. He wrote in Yiddish and translated from Russian into Yiddish and vice versa. He translated classical Marxist authors and theorists into Yiddish and the works of Scholem Alejchem into Russian.

Live and act

Lejb Goldberg was born in Brest into a family of writers. His father was a Hebrew teacher and author, and his older brother was the poet Menachem Boreischo. He began his literary activities in Warsaw .

After the October Revolution he worked in the People's Commissariat for Jewish Affairs in Moscow and for the Jewish welfare organization Yidgezkom (or Idgezkom / Идгезком = Idishe gezelshaftlekhe komitet = "Jewish Social Committee"). During the war he took part in the work of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee . He was the head of the Emes Verlag ( Der Emes ), a central publishing house for Yiddish publications, and published in the newspaper Ejnikajt ("Unity").

He translated works by Leo Tolstoy and Eliza Orzeszkowa (1842–1910), later Janusz Korczak , Pawel Blonski (1884–1941), N. Lenin , Josef Stalin , Nikolai Bukharin , Jemeljan Michailowitsch Jaroslawski , Karl Marx , Paul Lafargue into Yiddish , Guy de Maupassant and others. In addition to the works by Sholem Alejchem already mentioned , Jizchok Leib Perez also translated into Russian .

For the black book on the Holocaust and the crimes of the Wehrmacht , he prepared two accounts for printing.
