Leland (singer)

Leland , pseudonym of Brett McLaughlin (* in Biloxi , Mississippi ), is an American electro-pop singer and songwriter .

Career

McLaughlin attended school in Ocean Springs and appeared there for the first time publicly during high school in the theater company and with the Brett McLaughlin Band . He then studied music at Belmont University in Nashville . Finally, in 2010 he was hired by EMI Music Publishing (now part of Sony / ATV Music Publishing ) as a songwriter while doing various odd jobs in Los Angeles . In 2015 he had his first hit with Hide Away for Daya . In that year he also began a long-term collaboration with Allie X and Troye Sivan .

McLaughlin contributed music to the show RuPaul's Drag Race as well as to the Netflix production Sierra Burgess Is a Loser and to the movie The Prodigal Son ( Revelation , sung by Troye Sivan and Jónsi ). Other interpreters of his songs include Selena Gomez , Charli XCX , Sabrina Carpenter and Kelsea Ballerini . In 2017 McLaughlin made his debut under the name Leland as a singer with the single Mattress . At the beginning of 2019 he opened Troye Sivan's European concerts.
