Lely Kempin

Lely Kempin , née Hedwig Caroline Möller or Hedwig Carolin Möller (born August 2, 1878 in Altona near Hamburg , † April 5, 1971 in Celle ) was a German writer , poet , photographer and illustrator .

Life

Hedwig Carolin Möller grew up in the early days of the German Empire . During this time she married the Celle mine director Friedrich Kempin in 1905 .

In the middle of World War I , her book Haubenlerches Kriegsferien was published in its fifth edition in 1917 , which later became part of the World War II collection of the German library in Leipzig . Also in 1917 her illustrated and widely distributed book The Holy Island : It contains prints of photographs with her daughter Elfriede, who can be seen in a white dress and a flowered top; the imaged so-called island dress later became a great fad of girls of the 1920s .

Other illustrated works by Kempin at the time of the Weimar Republic were, for example, Joy - Summer Dreams, published in 1921 , which contained 18 photographs by Lise Abt , or the title Knowing Your Garden , published in 1931 by Velhagen & Klasing . With 49 pictures of plants based on original photos by the author .

In 1924 Lely Kempin encouraged Hildegard Staunau to set up their craft workshop for craft women's clothing, which was then opened at Auf dem Kampe 3 in Celle.

In addition to her writing and photographic career, Lely Kempin also designed the endpapers for the artist Carla Meyer-Rasch , similar to the one for Kempin.
