Leo Adler (pharmacologist)

Leo Adler (born January 20, 1886 in Bochum ; died January 19, 1925 there ) was a German pharmacologist who taught at the Goethe University in Frankfurt .

Life

Adler was born as the child of the Jewish businessman Salomon Adler and his wife Julie on January 20, 1886 in Bochum. He passed his matriculation examination in 1906 at the high school in Bochum. Adler then studied medicine at the universities of Munich , Erlangen , Berlin and Kiel . In 1911 he passed his state examination in Munich. In 1912 Adler received his doctorate from Ludwig Döderlein .

From 1912 to 1914 he was an assistant at the Pathological Institute in Berlin. In 1914 he moved to the Pharmacological Institute of the University of Frankfurt, where he worked as a private lecturer from 1916 . He also studied natural sciences in Munich and Erlangen . In 1916 he received his doctorate under Otto zur Strassen , and in the same year he received his habilitation in Frankfurt am Main . The subject of the habilitation thesis was the physiology of the amphathyroid gland . As a professor of pharmacology, he did research in the field of glands . Adler died the day before his 39th birthday
