Leo Gingold
Leo Gingold , also known as Löb , (born January 4, 1915 in Frankfurt am Main ; † in Auschwitz concentration camp ) was a Polish- German merchant from a Jewish family, a resistance fighter against National Socialism in the Resistance and a victim of the Shoa .
Life
Gingold visited after the elementary school , a secondary school and then graduated from a wholesaler an apprenticeship as a draper . In 1933 he fled into exile in Paris with his sister Dora and his parents . Here, after the invasion of the Wehrmacht , Leo joined the Resistance and the Travail allemand (TA). He also became a member of the Comité “Allemagne libre” pour l'Ouest (CALPO). He distributed leaflets to German Wehrmacht soldiers calling for them to sabotage the war of conquest against France . Gingold was picked up and arrested by the Gestapo on July 16, 1942 . According to other reports, on November 4, 1942, he was arrested by the French police and taken to various internment camps . The last station of internment was the Drancy assembly camp on January 26, 1943 . From Drancy, Gingold was admitted to the Beaune-la-Rolande camp on March 9, 1943 , a collective camp for the transport for extermination in Auschwitz on May 3, 1943 . The time of his death is not known.
Honors
On November 6, 2007, stumbling blocks were laid for him and other family members in Frankfurter Breiten Gasse 23, where his house once stood .
