Leo Guntern

Leo Guntern (born August 11, 1894 in Brig ; † November 27, 1981 there ; entitled to live in Binn ) was a Swiss politician ( CSP ).

Career

Leo Guntern, son of the farmer Auxilius Guntern and Theresia née Heinzen, passed the Matura at the college in Brig . As a result, he completed an apprenticeship at the Swiss Post PTT from 1914 . Guntern was employed as administrator of the PTT in Brig from 1945 to 1959.

In 1921 Guntern founded the Upper Valais Christian Social Party . He served as mayor in Brig and took his party from 1929 to 1965 in the Valais cantonal parliament , which he from 1944 to 1945 as president vorstand.1944 refused Guntern the post of deputy government governor from. In addition, he presided over the union cartel of the Christian unions Oberwallis and was president of the Christian metalworkers association CMV Oberwallis as well as numerous charitable institutions.

The Guntern, elected to the National Council in 1951, had to renounce his mandate after the National Council refused to declare the PTT position compatible with the National Council mandate. After his retirement at PTT, Leo Guntern took a seat on the Council of States for the canton from 1959 to 1967 .

Leo Guntern was married to Odile Grandi (1909-2004) since 1930. He died at the age of 87.
