Leo Koep

Leo Koep (born October 10, 1914 in Bonn , † July 20, 1964 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a Catholic church historian , liturgical scholar and pastoral theologian .

Koep studied Catholic theology in Bonn from 1935 to 1940 and was ordained a priest in Cologne on July 25, 1940. Pastoral work and military service followed. On February 24, 1947, he obtained his doctorate in Bonn. theol., then he was chaplain in Cologne. From 1952 to 1954 he headed the library of the Ettal monastery , from 1955 to 1960 he was first general secretary, then director of the Borromeo Association . On July 25, 1956, he completed his habilitation in the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Bonn for church history and Christian archeology. In order to continue his academic career, at the beginning of 1961 he took over a position as senior assistant in the Catholic-Theological Faculty in Bonn, became an associate professor on May 7, 1962, and on April 10, 1962, he became full professor for pastoral theology with a focus on liturgical science at the University of Freiburg i.
