Leo Kullmann

Leo Kullmann (born November 1, 1877 in Cottage Grove / Oregon / USA ; † January 20, 1941 in Gurs concentration camp ) was a German lawyer, politician and victim of National Socialism.

Life

Kullmann studied at the universities of Munich , Heidelberg and Berlin law . After completing his legal training, he settled in Karlsruhe as a lawyer . Kullmann was a social democrat . In 1911 he was first elected to the city council of Karlsruhe. In 1915 he was drafted into military service.

In 1919 he became a city councilor in Karlsruhe , and from 1921 to 1925 he was a member of the Baden state parliament . In 1923 Kullmann changed from the legal profession to the civil service. He was in Karlsruhe briefly as a magistrate, then as a member of the civil division at the district court and from 1930 at the Higher Regional Court operates. In March 1933, Kullmann was removed from the judge's office for racial reasons. In October 1940 he was deported to Camp de Gurs in southern France with over 6,000 other Jews from Baden and the Saar-Palatinate as part of the Wagner-Bürckel campaign . There he died after a few months of the inhumane storage conditions. His wife and daughter were deported from Gurs to Auschwitz , where they suffered the same fate.
