Leopoldus Eduardus Theoduris "Leo" Peelen (born July 16, 1968 in Arnhem , † March 24, 2017 in Apeldoorn ) was a Dutch cyclist.

Career

Leo Peelen was the Dutch junior champion in points driving in 1983 and 1984 . In 1986 he won the national juniors title in the single pursuit and the year after with Ralph Moorman in the two-man team .

In 1988 Peelen was the Dutch elite champion in two-man team driving with Thierry Detant . In the same year he started in the points race at the Olympic Games in Seoul and won the silver medal. The following year he was third in the points race at the UCI Track World Championships in 1989 in Lyon . In 1990 he won the Berlin stage trip .

Shortly thereafter, Leo Peelen ended his sporting career for professional reasons. He organized bike races, took part in charity bike races and was an ambassador for the Dutch cancer foundation "Tegenkracht". He was also chairman of the railway commission of the Dutch cycling association Koninklijke Nederlandsche Wielren Unie (KNWU).

Leo Peelen was a cousin of the cyclist Kenny van Hummel .
