Leo Wilhelm Robert Karl von dem Knesebeck (* 21 June 1808 in Neuruppin , † 6. May 1883 in Jühnsdorf ) was a Prussian landowner and 1851-1862 district of Teltow .

Life

Origin and family

Leo comes from the noble family of those von dem Knesebeck . His parents were Friedrich von dem Knesebeck (1775-1860) and Johanne, geb. von Bredow (1776–1856), his uncle was the Prussian field marshal Karl Friedrich von dem Knesebeck (1768–1848). On October 14, 1834, he married in Garz Marianne von Quast (1816-1887), daughter of the real secret council of state and manor Leopold von Quast (1765-1842). The couple had three daughters and four sons, including Friedrich von dem Knesebeck (* 1838), Walther von dem Knesebeck (* 1852) and Editha von dem Knesebeck (* 1855).

Career

Leo von dem Knesebeck served in the 1st Guard Regiment in Potsdam and made it up to major. From 1850 to 1852 he was a member of the First Chamber of the Prussian Landtag . In 1851 he became district administrator of the Teltow district. During his tenure, he suggested the publication of the Teltower Kreisblatt , the construction of several roads in the Teltow district and the establishment of the Teltower Kreissparkasse go back to him. He showed empathy towards the population, who complained that the wood distribution was unfair. It is even reported that through open sympathy for the ideals of the revolution of 1848 he exceeded the tolerance limit of the Prussian monarchy. In 1862 Knesebeck resigned from his position as district administrator for the Teltow district. He was succeeded by his son-in-law Ernst von Gayl. From then on Leo von dem Knesebeck concentrated on the management of his Jühnsdorf estate, which had been family-owned since 1823. However, he also remained politically active: from 1852 to 1858 and from 1866 to 1873 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives .

Knesebeck also worked as a canon in Brandenburg an der Havel .

Honors

The Knesebeckstraße in Berlin-Zehlendorf and the Knesebeck bridge between Berlin-Zehlendorf and Teltow are named after him. Encouraged by his family, a bronze plaque was unveiled on the bridge in 2007 in Knesebeck's honor.
