history

Archaeological finds suggest that the former municipal area was settled early on. On the shores of the Abtsdorfer See , south of Leobendorf, three copper axes from the 3rd millennium BC and a depot of clasp-shaped copper bars were found in Biburg . A barrow from the 7th – 6th centuries is from the Hallstatt period . Century BC Proven near Letten, near Kulbing a villa rustica from Roman times.

In the Middle Ages and modern times, the place was dominated by agriculture. A settlement on the site of today's village Leobendorf can be proven through the discovery of Bayuwar row graves . The border between the courts of Laufen and Tittmoning ran through the village of Leobendorf since 1578. Until 1803 Leobendorf belonged like the whole Rupertiwinkel to the Archbishopric of Salzburg , from 1810 to the Kingdom of Bavaria .

In the 20th century there were assignments to the city of Laufen: 1904 Sperlhof (today around Kohlhaasstrasse 5) and Roßeck (today around the intersection of Von-Brandl-Str. / Sudetenstrasse), 1923 Arbisbichl.

In 1972 the district of Laufen was dissolved and the independent municipality of Leobendorf became part of the new district of Berchtesgadener Land. On May 1, 1978 it was incorporated into the city of Laufen .

church

The first previous building of today's St. Oswald Church in Leobendorf was mentioned in 1347, but is likely to be older. In 1866 a new building followed, including the late Gothic east choir as a side chapel. In 1902 the sacristy was rebuilt and in 1913 the church was extended to the north.
