Leonard Nolens
Leonard Helena Sylvain Nolens (born April 11, 1947 in Bree ) is a Belgian poet , diary writer and translator .
Life
Nolens grew up in a middle-class family. After attending secondary school, he studied at the Higher Institute for Translators and Interpreters in Antwerp . In 1968 Nolens moved to Antwerp where he started working as a freelance translator. In addition to his work as a translator, he was editor of Experimental Labris magazine from 1969 to 1973 . Nolens made his debut in 1969 with the volume of poetry Orpheushanden , in which he published baroque, experimental-sounding poems. Nolens also published in magazines such as Nieuw Vlaams Tijdschrift, De Revisor, Nieuw Wereldtijdschrift , Het Moment and Tirade .
Nolens has become one of the most important Flemish poets. He is regularly proposed (alongside Cees Nooteboom ) by the Flemish-Dutch side as a candidate for the Nobel Prize for Literature .
Nolens is a romantic , often writes about love and the way one can escape one's identity. He also published some short stories and diaries, but his poetic work is central.
He prefers to see his biography described only with his name and his works.
He works and lives in Antwerp. His youngest son, David Nolens (* 1973), is also a writer.
