Leonardo Basile (born May 12, 1983 in Naples ) is an Italian Taekwondoin . He starts in the heavyweight division.
Basile achieved his first international success in 2000 when he won silver at the Junior World Championship in Killarney . The following year he started in Jeju-si for the first time at a world championship in the adult area, but was eliminated there in the round of 16. Basile finally made his breakthrough in the international top at the 2005 World Cup in Madrid , where he reached the semi-finals and won the bronze medal. The following year he also won bronze at the European Championships in Bonn . Basile was able to qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , but was eliminated there in his opening fight.
Basile celebrated his greatest sporting success so far at the 2012 European Championships in Manchester . With a final victory over Ivan Trajković , he became European champion for the first time.
