Leonardo Botallo
Leonardo Botallo (* 1530 in Asti ; † around 1571 in the Center-Val de Loire region : Chenonceaux or Blois ) was an Italian surgeon .
Life
After studying medicine, Botallo received his doctorate in Pavia in 1530 or 1543 . He then continued his education with Gabriele Fallopio in Padua . Botallo worked at the royal court in Paris as a surgeon who tended gunshot wounds and performed bloodletting in chronic illnesses.
The ductus arteriosus, already discovered by Galenos , is named after Botallo as the Botalli duct and the Botalli foramen or Botalli hole, which he described in his Opera omnia medica et chirurgic published in 1660 in Leiden .
