The castle warning Berg , also Burg Wernberg called, is the ruins of a hilltop castle in Lich in the district of Giessen in Hesse .

location

The castle ruin is located on the northern edge of the city of Lich on a small hill surrounded by a wide, partly water-filled depression, 240  m above sea level. NN high Breuerberg . The castle can still be seen on a copper engraving by Wilhelm Dilich from 1591 and in the Topographia Hassiae by Matthäus Merian from 1655.

history

The castle was probably built in the middle of the 12th century by Eberhard Waro von Hagen-Arnsberg , the second son of Konrad II von Hagen-Arnsberg . It served to protect a weather transition and in connection with the castles Rodenscheid and Westwich of the settlement and later city of Lich. The castle was only owned for a short time by the builder, as he moved to Heusenstamm near Offenbach . From 1160 the castle was occupied by castle men. In a feud against Philip VI. from Falkenstein ( Falkensteiner feud ) Lich and the castle Warnsberg were besieged and conquered. In 1377 it was pledged to Gerlach von Trohe . In 1420 it was mentioned in a document, with the further expansion of Lich Castle , it lost its importance and fell into disrepair.
