The Laubach Castle in Laubach , Hesse , consists in its present form of three partial structures that are interlocked in the shape of a horseshoe. Of the four formerly well-fortified round towers , later provided with baroque domes, three still exist. The castle is used and managed by the Counts of Solms-Laubach as their residence.

history

lock

Laubach was first mentioned in 786 in the register of possessions of the Hersfeld monastery . From this the Lords of Hagen-Münzenberg received the Laubach Vogtei as a fief. A castle with a round keep (gate or clock tower) was integrated into the fortifications in the 13th century. In 1255, as a result of the Munzenberg inheritance, the Lords of Hanau took the place of the Munzenbergs, followed by the Counts of Falkenstein . They bought the castle and began building strong fortifications in 1341, but they could only be completed in 1559. In 1418 the castle came to the Counts of Solms .

In 1475 Count Kuno von Solms received permission from Emperor Friedrich III. to further fortify the castle and the town of Laubach. The formerly well-fortified round towers were rebuilt in 1533 by the Lich master builder Wolff Werner. In 1548 a line to Solms-Laubach branched off to this day, which still exists today . The complex, which was expanded into a residence, was completed in 1559 under Friedrich Magnus zu Solms-Laubach , who was the first Solms man to have his permanent residence in Laubach, and it was expanded and expanded into a castle in the 16th and 18th centuries.
