The Hofburg is an abandoned Niederungsburg at the exit of Alten-Buseck to Großen-Buseck in the municipality of Buseck in the district of Gießen in Hesse .

history

The Hofburg, which was probably built in the middle of the 13th century, was first mentioned in 1393 and was the ancestral seat of the von Buseck family or their branch of the von Buseck family , known as Rüsser . A Ruser von Buseck (also Rüßer ) was mentioned as early as 1265 . The castle was rebuilt several times and was last mentioned in 1576 as dilapidated.

After the sidelines died out, in 1605 at the latest, Hans Philipp von Buseck was enfeoffed with the Hofburg. His descendants built a large, reinforced farmyard with the so-called Rittmeistermühle around 1826 . The mill was soon abandoned.

1836-1837, the property was the first presbytery of since that time independent parish Alten-Buseck and was community-owned since 1838th The castle stable shows no direct structural remains and is now built over with the manor house of the former farmyard from the beginning of the 19th century.

description

Collected remains of the Hofburg not far from the former location

No floor plans or buildings have survived from the old castle complex.

Today's classicist two-storey building, a mansion, presumably built on and with parts of the old castle, has a symmetrical floor plan and a high mansard roof . A porch attached to the north in the middle of the building with an open, ground-level hall and the associated staircase preserve the symmetry. From the outside, the building is characterized by the high, massive basement level made of quarry stone and a completely slated upper floor with unadorned, tall rectangular windows with folding shutters. To the south-east of the building there is an elongated half-timbered building on foundations made of quarry stones and with a gable roof , to which buildings are attached to the north and east. The former estate is still surrounded by courtyard walls, especially in the north-west and east.

Because of its historical and urban significance, the building, including the outbuilding and the courtyard walls, is a Hessian cultural monument .
