Burgstall Londorf

The Burgstall Londorf , also called Unterburg , is a lost moated castle on the Lumda on an artificial hill southeast of Londorf , largest district of the municipality of Rabenau , in the district of Gießen in Hesse .

The castle was built by the Lords of Nordeck around 1250 and mentioned with Adolf von Nordeck after the Rabennau in 1287. In the course of the Hessian Brotherly War , the castle was besieged in vain and demolished in 1785.

The castle was expanded in the late Middle Ages and supplemented by two more castles or fortified manors, the middle castle (built from 1555, with a half-timbered house from 1696 that still exists today) and the upper castle (farm, main building around 1776). The entire complex of the three castles north of Lumda ( Burgstrasse 2-14 , Gießener Strasse 22 ) roughly bounded by Burgstrasse and Gießener Strasse , with the main castles being east of the south-northeast part of today's Burgstrasse and west of it Castle gardens were in front and are now designed as a park, is also referred to as the entire complex of Rabenau Castle .
