Leonardus Dobbelaar

Leonardus Dobbelaar CM (born May 4, 1942 in Hulst , Netherlands ; † March 21, 2008 in Addis Ababa ) was a Roman Catholic religious and apostolic vicar of the Apostolic Vicariate in Nekemte .

Life

Leonardus Dobbelaar joined the religious order of the Lazarists (Vinzentines) and was ordained a priest on June 20, 1969 .

1994 Pope named him John Paul II. To the titular of Luperciana and ordered him Vicar Apostolic of Nekemte in the region Oromia in Ethiopia . He succeeded Fikre-Mariam Ghemetchu . He received his episcopal consecration on September 4, 1994, the Bishop of Haarlem Hendrik Joseph Alois Bomers ; Co- consecrators were Domenico Crescentino Marinozzi , Vicar Apostolic of Soddo-Hosanna in Ethiopia, and Yohannes Woldegiorgis , Vicar Apostolic of Meki in Ethiopia.

He was a member of the Bishops' Conference of Ethiopia and responsible for the formation of priests. Prelate Dobbelaar campaigned against the circumcision of female genitals
