Leonhard Rost

Leonhard Rost (born November 30, 1896 in Ansbach , † December 5, 1979 in Erlangen ) was a German Protestant theologian and Old Testament scholar .

Life

After studying Arabic and theology rust 1925 in Erlangen Dr. theol. doctorate ( The tradition of the Succession of David. ). His scientific career took him back to Erlangen via Berlin and Greifswald , where he taught as a full professor for the Old Testament. In Berlin he played a major role in the management and after 1945 in the reconstruction of the Institutum Judaicum . Rost retired in 1965.

Rost was also interested in the Qumran writings . Scientifically significant was Rost's thesis of a "story of the succession to the throne" from 2 Sam 6 to 1 Kings 1-2.

Rost was co-editor of the "Gießener Mishnah".
