Leonid Rudnytzky

Leonid D. Rudnytzky (originally Ukrainian Леонід Рудницький / Leonid Rudnyzkyj * 8. September 1935 in Lviv ) is from the Ukraine originating, American literary critic . From 1998 to 2003 he was rector of the Ukrainian Free University (UFU) in Munich .

Life

Leonid Rudnytzky was born the son of an Austro-Hungarian officer and lawyer in Lemberg, then Polish . Between 1944 and 1951 he lived in refugee camps in northern Germany and since 1952 in the USA. He has been a US citizen since 1956.

He studied German and English at La Salle University in Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and then German and Slavic studies at the Free University of Berlin . In 1965 he received his doctorate from the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (LMU) . In 1972 he completed his habilitation at the Università Cattolica Ucraina di San Clemente Papa in Rome . He was a longtime professor of comparative literature at La Salle University and the University of Pennsylvania.

In 1998, Leonid Rudnytzky, together with Richard J. Brunner and Hans Gerhard Stockinger, made a significant contribution to the continued existence of the Ukrainian Free University of Munich (UFU) . Rudnytzky was rector of the Ukrainian Free University (UFU) from 1998 to 2003.

Act

Rudnytzky published numerous scientific works in the field of German-Ukrainian relations and Ukrainian literature in English, Ukrainian, German, Polish and French. His research results on Thomas Mann are internationally recognized. He is a member of the Thomas-Mann-Förderkreis München eV He was president of the World Council of Shevchenko Scientific Society (NTSh). He is also chairman of the St. Sophia Religious Association of Ukrainian Catholics, USA. He has been awarded several honorary doctorates .
