The Leonine Holding GmbH (proper spelling: leonine ) is a German media company based in Munich , which as a holding company of Tele München Group , Universum Film , i & u TV and Wiedemann & Berg acts.

The group of companies is essentially active in the production, distribution and licensing of audiovisual content. With a library of over 7000 titles, Leonine is one of the largest film rights dealers in Europe.

history

The company was founded on January 16, 2019 as Blitz 19-5 GmbH and entered in the commercial register on January 23, before it initially operated as Show German AcquiCo GmbH from mid-February 2019 . At the end of February 2019, the takeover of the Tele München Group by Herbert G. Kloiber was announced. It was also announced that Fred Kogel would take over the management of the company in the future. In the course of the first half of 2019, Universum Film , i & u TV and most recently Wiedemann & Berg Film were also taken over. The US holding company Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR) would like to forge a new German media group that "covers the entire value chain from the film set to the cinema and for TV exploitation with strong in-house production".

In September 2019 it was announced that the newly founded holding company would bear the name Leonine ("lion-like") and that parts of the subsidiaries will also operate under this brand from January 2020. The choice of name was justified with the connection to Bavaria (lion as heraldic animal), the internationality of the term and the availability of trademark rights. The change of the company name was decided on September 19, 2019 by the shareholders' meeting.

According to a media report, the company and some subsidiaries will move their headquarters to the “Neue Siederei” in the medium term. The building in Munich's Taunusstrasse is due to be completed by the end of 2020.
