Wiedemann & Berg Film is a German film production company founded in 2003 by Quirin Berg and Max Wiedemann . The first feature film, The Lives of Others , won the 2007 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film .

history

Quirin Berg and Max Wiedemann founded Wiedemann & Berg Film in 2003 while studying together at the Munich University of Television and Film . In 2010, W&B Television was founded. Both companies have been part of the newly founded Leonine studio since January 2020 . Quirin Berg and Max Wiedemann are partners and co-founders of the studio and, as managing directors of Leonine Holding and chief production officers, manage the group's entire fiction production.

Her first feature film, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's directorial debut The Lives of Others , won an Oscar for best foreign language film in 2007 , followed by Werk ohne Autor , which received two Oscar nominations in 2019. Other movie hits include Baran bo Odar's hacking thriller Who Am I - No System is Safe or Simon Verhoeven's comedy Welcome to the Hartmanns - the most successful German film of 2016 with almost 3.9 million moviegoers. Nightlife came on February 13, 2020 the fifth joint film with Simon Verhoeven in the cinema.

In addition to the classic programs for free TV and linear TV, Wiedemann & Berg has also positioned itself as the first company in the new pay TV and VoD market . In 2012, TNT Serie created the first self-produced German pay TV series, followed by 4 Blocks . Wiedemann & Berg also produced Dark, the first German Netflix original, and Der Pass, one of the first Sky originals . Another major series is in production for Netflix with Tribes of Europa .

Quirin Berg and Max Wiedemann are members of the German , British and European Film Academy . From March 2008 to February 2018, Max Wiedemann was a member of the Cinema Film Section of the Alliance of German Producers - Film & Television .

The producers and productions of Wiedemann & Berg Film and Wiedemann & Berg Television received over 60 international short film prizes, film festivals and awards - including the Eastman Film Prize of the Hofer Filmtage, numerous awards from FBW, the special producer prize Sehsuchten Potsdam-Babelsberg, two nominations for the German Short Film Award, five Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau Awards and the European New Talent Award of the Cannes Film Festival.
