Faithful Roy is a TV film from the crime series Tatort . The contribution was produced by the MDR and is the third case of the investigative duo Lessing and Dorn from Weimar . The first broadcast took place on April 24, 2016 on Das Erste , ORF 2 and SRF 1 . Christian Ulmen and Nora Tschirner can be seen in the leading roles .

action

A corpse is found in the slag of a blast furnace near Weimar. Due to the circumstances, it is assumed that it is Roy Weischlitz, who was employed at the plant when tapping . Investigators Dorn and Lessing assume a murder.

The dead lived with his sister Siegrid, with whom his sister is said to have been on good terms. In fact, she blamed her brother for the fact that her former fiancé Karsten had lost a leg through Roy's fault. Since then, life has been going downhill for Siegrid, but especially for Karsten, who now lives as an alcoholic in an abandoned gas station and also works as a grave digger.

In addition to Karsten, who worked in the metal works on Roy's death night, his buddy Frank is also a possible perpetrator. His girlfriend Vanessa pretended to be a Czech prostitute and turned Roy's head. When Dorn and Lessing find out that Roy has been playing the lottery for years with the same winning numbers and therefore had apparently recently made a profit of 3.2 million euros with six correct numbers, the motive for the murder seems to have been found.

In fact, it turns out that nothing is what it appears at first glance. Roy is alive and living together with Siegrid, which she portrays as an ideal world, is clouded. When Roy meets the alleged Czech prostitute Irina Kratochvílová, who is actually a German and goes by the name of Vanessa Fink, he changes the winning numbers of his lottery games by swapping his sister's birthday with that of his new acquaintance. As a result, he does not win the big million dollar prize with six correct numbers, but has only typed four correct numbers. When Vanessa finds out about this, she turns away from Roy.

background

The episode was produced under the working title "Siegrid and Roy" as a corruption of the magicians Siegfried and Roy . The shooting took place in Weimar and the surrounding area from August 18 to September 20, 2015.

Director Gregor Schnitzler discussed the episode with the words: “For me it was not about presenting characters who constantly serve laughter because of the laughter, but rather to show a world that is believable and, in its extravagance, looks extremely funny. I love the Coen brothers ' films , they give me a good role model for the »crime scene«. "

"I like, when the case surprises, we confuse the viewer and ourselves a little," said Christian Ulmen on the episode The Faithful Roy .

Murmel Clausen and Andreas Pflüger wrote the script for all episodes of the investigative duo so far. The three previous film titles of the investigator duo have been written according to the same language. The two scriptwriters came up with the idea when they got lost in Weimar and found themselves between prefabricated buildings, a caravan with a red neon heart in the window and a group grilling nearby.

Towards the end of the episode, Roy is recommended by Lessing to read Goethe , but not The Sorrows of Young Werther , as the protagonist commits suicide because of an unfortunate liaison. Lessing previously quotes from Goethe's work The Natural Daughter , “The connoisseur should appreciate the simply beautiful, but the ornamented things appeal to the crowd” when Kira Dorn comes out of the beauty salon with a new hairstyle. He also quotes William Faulkner as saying : "Intelligence is the ability to accept one's surroundings".

criticism

Detlef Hartlap , editor-in-chief of prisma , names the “unhidden celebration of its improbability” as “the sympathetic thing about the Weimar crime scenes”. Although "every crime scene sequence is built beyond reality, even if some pretend to be half a social hour", the "Weimar crime scenes are an accumulation of quirks that" - in contrast to Thiel and Boerne from the people of Münster Crime scenes - "rather being downplayed cool than comedic". The episode includes “the most impossible pair of investigators, the most impossible pair of siblings, two beauticians named Miriam and Adriana who are brutally copied from life, a policeman named Lupo, and a Karsten with one leg who is therefore called“ Flamingo ””. The name is given to the faithful Roy, whose desire is to pass out of life, but who, as a “man of steel”, “survived the demolition of a prefabricated building” and “not in the embers of a blast furnace, not with a bullet in his head , not even after a lintel “can be killed. "The gags seem to be slightly dimmed out of consideration for the Sunday audience". Faithful Roy is "crazy in the harmless way, that has to be enough".

The TV Movie editorial team is of the opinion that the episode "is teeming with funny owls" because they "are again relying on a lot of humor". This should be assessed in a very differentiated way, because "sometimes the comic-like character of the characters works splendidly, but sometimes the makers exaggerate it and the sympathetic, bizarre joke slips into silly". “The strongest” is the episode “when things get serious”. "The crime story itself hits a few hooks too many, but is solidly constructed", especially "the final third is exciting and emotional". The editorial team sums up that the episode is "not quite perfect on the whole, but weird and enjoyable". She calls the episode "fun, even if not every gag is right" and rates it as "recommendable".

Petra Noppeney from the Westfälische Nachrichten judges that the episode The Faithful Roy follows the style "Krimi bizarre" and was thus "first class". In the “grandiose, weird“ Tatort ”, which has“ crazy twists ”, the main roles with the“ beaten loser ”Roy, played by Florian Lukas , and Fritzi Haberlandt “ as an overpowering sister ”are well cast. The scriptwriters "not only succeeded in creating a funny and intelligent story down to the last nook and cranny, which targeted many clichés", but also "chatted around to their hearts' content" ("Who is sitting in the closet? - Frank. - Sick!") , "From which, above all, Nora Tschirner and Christian Ulmen, as investigators with children and plans for a home, benefited in their dialogues".
