Target Investigators - Escape to the Carpathian Mountains

Target Investigators - Bloody Tango is a German TV film from 2019. Directed by Stephan Lacant , the screenplay was written by Rolf Basedow . In the main roles, Ulrike C. Tscharre and Hanno Koffler can be seen as target investigators, who in Montevideo pursue the hostage-taking couple Tezloff, played by Heike Makatsch and Jörg Hartmann , who are following the still missing ransom and the unknown third hostage-taker track down.

After Target Investigators - Escape to the Carpathian Mountains , this is the second episode in the Target Investigators series. The film was first broadcast on October 26, 2019 on ARD Das Erste during prime time .

action

The married couple Gisela and Uwe Tezloff kidnapped the industrialist Volker Hagenbach who was nine years old and was released after paying a ransom. The couple could be arrested and sentenced at the time; However, there is still no trace of the 10 million euros ransom - as well as the still unknown third perpetrator. In the meantime, the Tezloffs have been released after serving their sentence and are leaving for South America under false names.

The police assume that the now quarreled couple finally want to collect their share of the booty as a reward for their silence and see this as a chance to finally catch the unknown third perpetrator.

The LKA target investigator Hanna Landauer and her new partner Lars Röwer are trying to track them down in Montevideo - contrary to the advice of their South American colleagues on their own. The only point they can pick up on is Gisela Tezloff's passion for tango . Landauer and Röwer roam through the so-called milongas , the countless tango bars in Montevideo, night after night , always in the hope of meeting Gisela Tezloff there. In addition, Landauer confides the results of the investigation to her ex-boyfriend Rossmann, who had arrested the Tezloffs at the time, but is no longer with the police. Röwer, who is of the opinion that you will get stuck if you strictly adhere to the service regulations during this foreign assignment, tries to advance the investigation in a more unconventional way.

At some point, however, the investigators manage to track down Gisela Tezloff and lose her again. At the next meeting, Gisela Tezloff asked Röwer of all people to do the tango and took him to an hour hotel, where he consumed coke and had sex with Gisela Tezloff so as not to get caught. Röwer succeeds in installing a location app on Tezloff's smartphone. A little later, the woman is kidnapped by three people. Rossmann is also involved in this action. Gisela Tezloff should call her husband and tell him that they want the 10 million back. Rossmann threatens her blatant violence if it does not come to a handover. Uwe Tezloff initially believes that his wife is fooling him in order to get the money. Then, however, there is a box in front of his door containing Gisela Tezloff's cut finger. Tezloff then visits his partner and demands that he hand over the ten million.

Both the third perpetrator, a boxing promoter, and Tezloff can be arrested. Tezloff tells of the blackmail and the cut finger. Only now, very late, does the investigators realize that they have been shadowed and that they have thus contributed to the free riders being able to track down the Tezloffs. In order not to endanger Gisela Tezloff's life, the money transfer should take place. At the scene of the event, Rossmann demands that Landauer deliver the money. He landed in a helicopter. Gisela Tezloff is released after the money has been handed over. The helicopter takes off and a little later Landauer and Röwer see with horror that Rossmann is thrown from the machine above the water. When he was recovered, the knife that was used to stab him from behind is still in his chest.

criticism

Anna Klöpper said in taz.de : “Tango without swing [...] A well-told story, great actors and yet something is missing from the thriller. Maybe the story could have used one or the other idea? "

Frank Jürgens stated in the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung : “The script […] is convincing with its straightforward clarity and short, laconic dialogues. And director Stephan Lacant, together with his outstanding cameraman Philipp Sichler, creates a gloomy, threatening atmosphere. The shocking ending should surprise even particularly clever crime fans. "

TV Spielfilm was of the opinion: "Rough, atmospherically illustrated crime thriller" or "Director Stephan Lacant [...] shows himself to be confident in his atmospherically illustrated crime thriller [...]."

Tilmann P. Gangloff found little interest in the film on the evangelisch.de website and wrote: “The striking title 'Bloody Tango' arouses completely false expectations anyway, because the film is simply boring for a long time; the first third in particular consists largely of the same scenes over and over again. "

Arnold Hohmann wrote in the Berliner Morgenpost : “Successful continuation of a case three years ago.” Even if the film was “a little off the beaten track at first” because the “whole prehistory had to be unwound at breakneck speed”, “about the plot To give a foothold ”, says director Lacant,“ how to quickly get back on track afterwards ”so that the tension is“ by no means lost ”. In conclusion, Hohmann remarked: “Seldom has a crime thriller ended so depressively. And actually that's really good. "

At Kino.de was tpg. of the opinion that director Stephan Lacant filled the airtime “primarily with dancing, which is certainly nice for tango fans, but rather sobering for crime fans”. Judging by Lacant's previous work, “'Bloody Tango' is at least one class worse; especially if the film is intended as a thriller ”. At least the finale is "quite dramatic" and the music is "quite appealing". One shortcoming is the important role of Landauer's former partner and ex-boyfriend. The man played by the Argentine actor Javier Drolas is "an interesting guy", but he had to be dubbed, "and you can hear it".
