action

Juli Krahlich, a young singer, touches people with a song about her dead father. It looks like the young woman's dream of making it to the top is coming true. A big tour is currently being planned. Nobody knows that their song is based on a lie. Her father Wim died for July because he left her and her mother behind and she made him responsible for the mother's death, but the truth is that her father is very much alive and also a living rock legend.

The message that the nephrologist Mateusz Tauber gives her after a breakdown turns Juli's life and her plans completely upside down. Her kidney disease, which she carefully kept secret, has deteriorated so drastically that Juli urgently needs a donor kidney. And since she has no one left except her father, only his father is eligible for organ donation. Juli, who has had no contact with her father Wim for 17 years and actually does not want to have any, is now forced to approach him again. At Juli's request, Mateusz Tauber visits her father and comes back with the message that he wants to be tested but makes it a condition that she spend time with him. When Juli visits her father for the first time, he makes it clear that he wants you to see each other regularly so that you can get to know each other better. After Juli's unenthusiastic look, he says restrictively, at least until the transplant has taken place.

Contrary to the advice of her doctor, Juli wants to go through her tour first and only then tackle the necessary kidney transplant. She tries to explain to Tauber what her job means to her and that even as a little girl she dreamed of being on big stages. With her father, on the other hand, another meeting leads to a situation in which he thinks that she doesn't need to come any more, that she can get her kidney like this, and that's okay. When Juli rings his doorbell again, he sends her away on a flimsy pretext. Shortly afterwards, however, he picks up July to visit a place from her past with her. He says: "Do you know what the worst is, mistakes that you can never make up for."

When Juli learns that her father would take a high risk with a transplant, she says nothing and confronts Mateusz Tauber with a fait accompli. When Wim wants to speak to his daughter, she confesses to him that she intercepted his letters at the time, believing that this would save her mother further suffering. During an interview given shortly afterwards, she surprisingly confesses that she lied that her father was not dead. She no longer wants the planned tour either. Her father then agrees to a live interview so that it cannot be cut and found moving words for his daughter. When they meet again, he confesses that he is now almost deaf. It is his great wish to help her. Juli agrees to have his kidney transferred, everything is going well.

A month later, father and daughter are making music together and planning a performance together. When Juli wants to pick up her father for an appointment shortly afterwards, he collapses and dies. July is devastated. Wim's bandmates from earlier times encourage Juli to give a concert just for her father, he would have liked that. Mateusz, with whom July has since established an intensive connection, also encourages her. And so the young woman decides to pay homage to her father, to which she has also invited his bandmates. With tears, Juli sings the songs composed by her father and her.

production

Filming, production notes

It was shot with you only from June 25th to July 24th, 2019 in Munich and the surrounding area ( Starnberg , Münsing , Aichach , Ismaning , Rehling ). For the film, which drew W & B Television GmbH & Co. KG responsible for the film on behalf of ARD Degeto produced for the first.

background

At the end of the film, Vanessa Mai, who can be seen in the film as singer Juli, interprets the song Spiegel, Spiegel , which was also included on her sixth studio album, Forever , and was created especially for this film, as a homage to her film father Wim is. There is also a duet version of the song with Axel Prahl.

In a making of for the film, Vanessa Mai said that it was already an announcement to be able to play a leading role in a Saturday evening film in her debut as an actress. It's definitely fun, but it's completely different from being on stage as a singer. She couldn't compare this experience with anything and was also “really flat” in the evening because all the new impressions would almost overwhelm her. There are scenes where her heart is beating "really hard". She actually didn't prepare for the filming because this was everyone's wish, she should just stay as natural as she is. Of course she read the script and then dealt with it. She learned a lot during the filming. She cried while watching the film.

Axel Prahl praised Vanessa Mai and said, "Chapeau", she does it great and is highly musical. Mai said she got on really well with Prahl, the actor, but also really a musician. She is happy for him because he can finally show in a film that he also makes music, plays the guitar and sings and writes his own songs. Axel Prahl suggested using the song he had written for a children's CD for the scene for which a nursery rhyme was being sought, which he had once sung in July. In my dream it fitted well and was taken over. His song Ritual can also be heard in the film.

Ferdinand Seebacher, who plays the nephrologist Tauber, explained that his role develops into an interesting relationship with Julie over the course of the film. The way he got to know Vanessa Mai, it will be “a fantastic shoot with her”, which he is already looking forward to. May be a totally open, warm and funny person and “totally unpretentious”, which he thinks is “great”. Of course, the shooting is a little different because Mai is not “from the field”. It is also a challenge for him to have someone by his side who otherwise stands on stage and sings. He is looking forward to this task.

criticism

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm expressed themselves positively by drawing the conclusion: "Mai and Prahl hit the right note". It also said: “Vanessa Mai, who is rooted in hits, surprises with her touching and natural portrayal. It hits the heart, especially in cooperation with Axel Prahl. There is a little love - unnecessarily - on top. Thanks to humor and stars, it doesn't get too sweet. ”The film received the best possible rating, thumbs up.

Ulrike Cordes, dpa , was reproduced on the page Klatsch-Tratsch.de with her statement that the 27-year-old leading actress completed “her new job with freshness and naturalness”.

On the page t-online.de it was speculated that "it should be a highlight for the many fans of Vanessa Mai to see and hear the former Wolkenfrei singer as the heroine of a TV drama".

Rainer Tittelbach rated the film on his website tittelbach.tv , gave it 4.5 out of a possible six stars and stated that the audience response to television films with musicians was "manageable". 'Only with you' should be “a greater success”, because firstly, “the story between the absent father and the lost daughter with its universal emotional states is extremely compatible”, and secondly, “the film by Stefan Bühling has two loves - Stories that have been cleverly linked ", and thirdly," this premium movie has two real eye-catchers who make music themselves: Vanessa Mai, an attractive singer between Schlager & Pop, and Axel Prahl, whose Thiel is Germany's TV commissioner with the highest ratings " be. The melodrama serves “the well-known clichés of the music industry”, but works “with a mix of feel-good kicks and tragedy as a projection surface for suppressed (audience) feelings. Have handkerchiefs ready! ”For“ a non-actress ”,“ language, gestures and facial expressions ”are“ more than okay ”for Vanessa Mai.
