Leopold-Kunschak-Platz
The Leopold-Kunschak-Platz (colloquially mostly Kunschak-Platz ) is a square in Vienna- Hernals that was created around 1900 . It was named in 1971 after the politician Leopold Kunschak .
Located at the beginning of Alszeile , it is best known as the forecourt of the Hernalser Friedhof , whose listed main building dominates the north side of the square. Also listed are the buildings of the rescue station Hernals that the Vienna Ambulance Museum houses and the three-arched rail bridge by Otto Wagner , runs on the line S45. In addition, the square is home to an inn popular with visitors to the cemetery and residents, as well as the arteum sculpture center .
While the square is not directly on Hernalser Hauptstrasse , the main building of the cemetery is connected to it via a visual axis (Schultheßgasse). Kunschak-Platz is connected to the local public transport network (S45, 43, buses) via the high-ranking traffic junction at Hernals train station, which is around 250 meters away . The Hernalser Friedhof stop is located on the square itself , but can only be reached by 42A in the direction of Schafberghöhe. Part of the space is used as a bus parking space and is therefore the first stop in Vienna for many travelers. Since the controversial B222 (see Wiener Vororte Straße ) was routed across the square in the late 1980s, the traffic function has outweighed the residence function.
