Leopold Ernst

Leopold Ernst (born October 14, 1808 in Vienna ; † October 17, 1862 there ) was an Austrian architect .

Leopold Ernst was a pupil of Peter von Nobiles . From 1853 he was the master builder of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. He redesigned the Palais Niederösterreich in Vienna's Herrengasse and the Grafenegg Castle and created the plans for the tower extension of the parish church Großweikersdorf . Leopold Ernst died in Vienna in 1862.

Professionally, he was followed by his son Hugo Ernst (1840–1930), who, as cathedral builder , completed the restoration work he had begun on St. Stephen's Cathedral after his father's death.

1894 in Vienna's Hernals the Leopold-Ernst-Gasse named after him.
