Leopold Friedrich von Kleist (born April 7, 1780 in Frankfurt (Oder) , † June 4, 1837 in Stolp ) was a Prussian major and postmaster von Stolp.

Life

origin

Leopold Friedrich came from the Pomeranian noble family von Kleist . His parents were Joachim Friedrich von Kleist (1728–1788) and his second wife Juliane Ulrike, née von Pannwitz (1746–1793). He had four siblings: Heinrich , Friederike (1775-1811), Auguste (1776-1818) and Juliane (1784-1856).

Career

Kleist became an officer in the Prussian Army and was garrisoned in the Guard Regiment in Potsdam from 1799 . In 1806 he took part with his regiment in the battle of Jena and Auerstedt . In 1811 he retired from military service as a major and became postmaster in Stolp. He died of a stroke here at the age of 57 at a feast while sitting next to the Crown Prince . The condolences to the widow of the Crown Prince, whose fencing master Kleist had been when he was an officer, was published in contemporary papers.

family

In 1804 he married Wilhelmine von Blanckensee (1788–1867). The marriage resulted in nine children. The son Theodor von Kleist (1815–1886) became the manor owner and member of the Prussian manor, the youngest son Ewald Christian Leopold von Kleist (1824–1910) became general of the infantry and commanding general of the 1st Army Corps.
