Carlo Yaír Costly Molina (born July 18, 1982 in San Pedro Sula ) is a Honduran soccer player who currently plays for CD Marathón and is a member of the Honduran national soccer team .

Career

society

At the age of 14 Carlo Costly moved with his family to Mexico City , where he trained with Celaya FC , Monarcas Morelia , Atlas Guadalajara and UNAM Pumas, among others . He later returned to Honduras and began his professional career in the 2006 season with CD Platense . After only one season and ten goals in 19 games, he was loaned to the Polish club GKS Bełchatów and immediately committed after eleven games and six goals. In July and August 2007, he played two games in the 2007/08 UEFA Cup qualifying against Ameri Tbilisi . After a 4-2 win on penalties, Bełchatów made it into the second qualifying round, but lost there against the Ukrainian representative Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk on a return match with 3: 5.

After good performance for Bełchatów, he completed several trial training sessions at English clubs such as Plymouth Argyle , Leeds United and Birmingham City . In January 2009, it was awarded to Birmingham City through the end of the season . He made his debut on February 7th when he came on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw against Burnley FC . After eight league games, but not a single goal, he returned to Poland in July 2009 . After his return, he played only three league games and scored one goal in the first half of the 2008/09 season. On January 24, 2010 he then moved to Romania to FC Vaslui , where he signed a three and a half year contract. In December 2010 he left FC Vaslui and returned to his second home to Atlas Guadalajara in January 2011 .

In July 2011 he was loaned to Houston Dynamo in Major League Soccer . After eleven league appearances and one goal he returned to Atlas. In September 2012, he moved to the Greek club Veria FC before moving to China in July 2013. There he scored two goals for Guizhou Zhicheng against Yanbian Baekdu Tigers in the Chinese Super League on his debut . After scoring seven goals in eleven games, he returned to his native Honduras on January 2, 2014 and signed with Real España .

In the summer of 2014, Costly moved to the Turkish Süper Lig for the southern Turkish representative Gaziantepspor . In January 2015 he left this club and went back to his homeland Honduras and joined CD Olimpia the following summer . Since January 2019 he has been playing for the league rivals CD Marathón .

National team

On January 4, 2007 he was nominated by trainer Flavio Ortega for the squad of the UNCAF Nations Cup 2007 in El Salvador , but after Ortega died of a stroke shortly before the start of the tournament, interim trainer José de la Paz Herrera took over the team and crossed out Costly the squad. On June 3, he made his unofficial international debut in a 3-1 win over Trinidad and Tobago and scored the 3-1 goal. His official debut followed five days later at the CONCACAF Gold Cup against Panama when he came on for Carlos Pavón in the 3-2 defeat in the 66th minute and scored the next goal in the 90th minute. On June 10, he scored twice in the 2-1 victory over Mexico .

In qualifying for the 2010 World Cup , he scored six goals in 16 qualifying matches, including a brace on April 2, 2009 against Mexico and on August 12 against Costa Rica . Costly was originally part of the squad for the World Cup in South Africa , but injured himself shortly before and was only in the extended squad of Honduras . In summer 2014 he took part in his second soccer world championship .
