Leopold Katscher

Leopold Katscher (born August 30, 1853 in Tschakowa near Timisoara , Austrian Empire ; † February 25, 1939 in Lucerne , Switzerland ) was a peace activist, writer , journalist , economist , social scientist and translator from the Banat , who wrote mainly in German .

Live and act

Leopold Katscher was born in Tschakowa in Timiș County in the Banat (now Romania ). He attended high school in Timisoara , and then studied in Budapest , London , Vienna , Bern and Paris . As a writer, he was particularly concerned with biographical and social reformation issues. He is the author of a biography about Bertha von Suttner and was active in a leading position in the European peace movement. Among other things, he was the founder of the Hungarian Peace Society. He was the editor of several magazines and translated and edited in particular English and French literature. Katscher also produced an edition of selected fairy tales by Andersen . He was the husband of the writer Berta Katscher (1860-1903). Katscher wrote under various pseudonyms , some of which he used together with his wife.
